Origin and Habitat: South-west Madagascar: 50 km north-west of Tulear, on the way to the Fiherenana valley (Anjamala area). Known only from one specimen, never collected again.
Habitat: Deciduous forest. It is highly threatened by human activities, habitat degradation, fires. It also has some horticultural appeal.

Subspecies, varieties, forms and cultivars of plants belonging to the Euphorbia platyclada group
- Euphorbia platyclada Rauh: has irregularly flattened branches, to 10 (-15) mm wide and 2-3 mm thick, bright pink or red-brown colour with veins of dark grey-green. The stems tend to grow horizontally.
- Euphorbia platyclada var. hardyi Rauh: has thicker branches, longer internodes and terminal branches cylindrical, flattened part to 2 cm below branch-tips, to 4 x 1.5 cm, greenish-grey with dark-green warts. Cyathia solitary.
