Origin and Habitat: Parodia comarapanaSN|5775]]SN|5771]] (assessed together Parodia mairananaSN|5775]]SN|5775]]) is strictly endemic to a small area in Santa Cruz and Florida in the north of Comarapa, Bolivia. It has a relatively small extent of occurrence (Extent of occourance about 1,600 km2), however the it is very abundant in its habitat and there are more than 10 locations, however in the eastern part of the distribution (what is suspected to be P. comarapana) it grows in small populations with few individuals.
Altitude range: 1,500-2,300 m above sea level.
Habitat and Ecology: This species grows in humid rocky outcrops in grassland and inter-Andean valleys (Parodia mairananaSN|5771]]SN|5775]]). The same area support endemic succulents and xerophyte plants such as Sulcorebutia krahniiSN|15096]]SN|15096]], Samaipaticereus corroanus and the orchid Epidendrum ibaguense. The major threats is habitat destruction through subsistence farming and agriculture, it grows on rocks which confers it some protection from land clearance for cultivation.

- Parodia comarapana Cárdenas: flowers mostly orange tinged with red or rusty-red, but also yellow or pink. Distribution: Santa Cruz and Florida in the north of Comarapa, Bolivia.
- Parodia mairanana Cárdenas: has flowers in various combinations of orange,brick red and dull vermilion. Distribution: Above Agua Clara in the neighbourhood of Mairana.
- Parodia mairanana var. atra Backeb.: has dark green body with dark spines, almost black in young areoles. The pericarpel is covered in dark-red hairs. Distribution: Mairana, Florida, Santa Cruz, Bolivia
